வாசிக்கப்பட வேண்டிய அபூர்வ எழுத்தாளர் -- An unusual writer who deserves to be READ

எனது பள்ளிப்பருவத்து நண்பனும் சவூதி அறபியாவின் ஜஸான் பல்கலைக்கழகப் பேராசிரியருமான முனைவர் தமீமுல் அன்சாரி எனது படைப்புக்களை முன் வைத்து தனது முக நூல் பக்கத்தில் ஆங்கிலத்தில் எழுதியவையும் அதன் தமிழாக்கமும்:

எழுத்தாளர் சாளை பஷீர் எழுதிய சில படைப்புகளை படித்த பிறகு, எனது உள்ளம் ஆழமாக நெகிழ்ந்து போனது.

அவர் ‘அறியாத நிலங்களில்’ மேற்கொண்ட ‘திட்டமிடாத  அலைச்சல்கள்’ சில நேரங்களில் நமக்கு  ‘நன்கு அறிந்ததை’ அறியாததாகவும், ‘அறியாததை’ அறிந்ததாகவும் மாற்றுகிறது. கடுமையாக அழைக்கும் ‘தேவையான பணிகளிலிருந்து’ நம்மை விலக்கி, நாம் கூட அவதானிக்காமல் உருவாகும் ஒரு  உந்துதலுக்குள் ஈர்க்கும்படி செய்கிறது. நம்மை கடுமையாக சுமந்து கொண்டிருக்கும் பளுவை  விடுவித்து, சுமையற்ற ஒரு விடுதலையை அடையச் செய்வதுதான் இதன் அழகு. ஆனால் அதற்கு பொறுப்புணர்வும் வேண்டும். 

நமது  பள்ளிகள், கல்லூரிகள், பல்கலைக்கழகங்கள் கற்பிக்கத் தவறிய பாடங்களை ஒரு பயணம் மூலம் அடையும்போதுதான் உடனடியாகக் கடந்து செல்லும் வாழ்வின் அழகை உணர முடியும். சாளை பஷீரின் தோந்நிய யாத்திரை,கசபத், என் வானம் என் சிறகு, மலைப்பாடகன் போன்ற நூல்களை வாசிக்கும்போது இதை உணரலாம். ஒவ்வொரு படைப்பும் வாழ்வின் கொண்டாட்டத்திற்குரிய ஒரு பரிமாணத்தை நம்மிடம் கொண்டு வந்து சேர்க்கிறது. 

காயல்பட்டினத்தின் மொழிநடையோடு அவர் சொல்லும் கதைகள், அதில் உள்ள அபூர்வமான குறிப்புகள், பகடியான நிகழ்வுகள் என இவையனைத்தும் மொழியின் மாயாஜாலத்தை உணரச்செய்கின்றன. ஒவ்வொரு வரியிலும் அவர் உருவாக்கும் படிமங்கள், வாசகரின் உள்ளத்தில் ஒரு தொடுதலை ஏற்படுத்துகின்றன. 

சாளை பஷீரின் எழுத்துக்களை வாசிக்கும்போது வைக்கம் முகம்மது பஷீரை நினைக்காமலிருக்க முடிவதில்லை. 

எளிய மொழி ஆனால் செறிவார்ந்த சொற்கள்.

ஊறிப்பரந்து ஒத்துணர்வுண்டாக்குபவை. ஆனால் அமைதியை உறுத்தும் உருக்காட்சிகள் கொண்டவை.

வசதியாக்கித் தருபவை ஆனால் எளிமைத்தன்மை கொண்ட  ஆழ் வினை புரியும் படிமங்கள்.

 மேற்கண்ட  சில கூறுகளின் வழியாக வைக்கம் பஷீரின் உணர்வு நிலையுடன் நெருக்கமான தொடர்பை சாளை பஷீரும் பகிர்கிறார். வைக்கம் பஷீர் இந்திய இலக்கியத்திலுள்ள சனநாயக மரபை உறுதியாக சார்ந்து நிற்பவர்.

தங்களின் இயங்கு காலத்தில் ஒருபோதும் கவனிக்கப்படாத பல எழுத்தாளர்களைப்போலவே தன்னைத்தானே அவ்வளவாக பொருட்படுத்திக்கொள்ளாத ஒருவராக இவ்வெழுத்தாளரும் கடந்து போகிறார்.
ஆனால் அவரைப் போன்ற எழுத்தாளர்களை ஊக்குவிப்பதுடன் அவர்களுடனா ன சிந்தனைச் சந்திப்புகளை உருவாக்குவதற்கு நம் குடிமைச் சமூகம் பொறுப்பேற்க வேண்டும். 

நமது  பண்பாட்டின் சனநாயக மனப்பான்மையைப் பாதுகாத்து விரிவாக்கிடவும், கூடுதல் சுமையினால் தள்ளாடும் உலகில், வாழ்வின் நோக்குகளையும் பொருட்களையும் மேலும் 

கண்டடைவதற்கும்  புரிந்துக் கொள்வதற்கும் இத்தகைய எழுத்தாளர்களை ஆதரிக்க வேண்டியது நம்  கடமையாகும்.

An unusual writer who deserves to be READ

I was deeply moved after reading a few works of the emerging writer Salai Basheer whose ‘ mindless wanderings’ on the lands unknown make sometimes ‘familiar’ strange, and ‘strange’ familiar to us. 

Thoughts shift away from ' the demanding tasks' before us to  internally responding to 'an urge' which is  generated often without awareness. This is the beauty of letting the weight that weighs heavy within us go in order to  'embrace the lightness' being 'free', but not without responsibility.

The beauty of life that can be appreciated only when we move beyond ‘the immediate’ and take up a course of ‘journey’ which brings to us the lessons and values which our schools, colleges and universities have failed to teach. This is what happens when we read books such as Thonniya Yatra,Kasabath,Envanam En Siragu and Malaipadagan. Each of his works presents to us a dimension of life which has to be celebrated.

The touch of Kayalpattinam slang with which he pens his stories and unusual references and funny anecdotes that we find in his  writings make one wonder ‘the wonders of words’. He conjures up varied images and attempts to evoke in us sympathy with a touching sensitivity which has the effect of magic.

I can’t help but be reminded of Vaikom Basheer when I wade through the pages of his writings. Naked language but loaded words, infused empathy but disturbing imagery, and deeply engaging metaphors but facilitating simplicity are some of those elements which reveal ‘the close connection’ that Salai Baheer shares with the consciousness of Vaikom Basheer, who indeed belongs firmly to the democratic tradition in Indian literature.

Just as many writers who were never noticed when they were active, this writer too passes off as someone who does not bother to take himself too seriously. But, it is the responsibility of our civic society to encourage and engage with such writers to create conditions for intellectual discourse in order to promote, retain and sustain the democratic spirt that is embedded in our culture and expand our scope and understading of life and its purposes in this heavily 'overloaded' world .
